Community Guidelines

Our Purpose
 

RebuildAfterStroke exists to support stroke survivors, caregivers, family members, friends, and supporters.
 

The Recovery Wishlist is intended to help people communicate recovery-related needs, coordinate assistance, and build supportive communities during the recovery journey.
 

These Community Guidelines help create a safe, respectful, and trustworthy environment for everyone.
 

By participating in the Site or Wishlist, you agree to follow these guidelines.
 

Treat Others With Respect
 

Every person using RebuildAfterStroke is facing unique challenges.
 

Please:
 

· be respectful;
 

· be patient;
 

· be compassionate;
 

· assume good intentions when appropriate; and
 

· communicate in a constructive manner.
 

Disagreements may occur, but personal attacks are not acceptable.
 

No Harassment or Abuse
 

Do not:
 

· harass other users;
 

· threaten others;
 

· intimidate others;
 

· bully others;


· stalk others;
 

· target individuals with repeated unwanted communications; or
 

· engage in abusive behavior.
 

We may remove content or restrict access when behavior makes the community unsafe or uncomfortable for others.
 

Respect Privacy
 

Many Wishlist profiles contain personal information relating to recovery, caregiving, disability, and health challenges.

Please respect the privacy of others.
 

Do not:
 

· share another person’s private information without permission;
 

· repost Wishlist content without authorization;
 

· publish personal contact information belonging to others; or
 

· attempt to obtain private information through deception.
 

Users should carefully consider what information they choose to make public.

 

Create Honest Wishlists
 

Wishlists should accurately represent the individual they are intended to support.
 

Do not:
 

· create fake Wishlist profiles;
 

· impersonate another person;
 

· misrepresent your relationship to a survivor;
 

· exaggerate circumstances for financial gain; or
 

· submit knowingly false information.
 

If you are creating a Wishlist for another person, ensure you have their permission or appropriate authority to do so.
 

No Fraud or Scams
 

Fraudulent activity is prohibited.
 

Examples include:
 

· creating fake recovery stories;
 

· seeking gifts under false pretenses;
 

· impersonating caregivers or family members;
 

· misrepresenting needs;
 

· attempting to obtain money or items through deception; or
 

· directing users to fraudulent websites.
 

Suspected fraud may result in immediate account suspension.

 

Medical Information and Advice
 

Recovery experiences vary significantly from person to person.
 

Users may share personal experiences and recovery stories.
 

However, Wishlist content should not be treated as professional medical advice.
 

Do not:
 

· claim to diagnose medical conditions;
 

· claim to provide professional medical treatment;
 

· encourage users to ignore healthcare professionals;
 

· promote dangerous medical practices; or
 

· present unverified information as established medical fact.
 

Users should consult qualified healthcare professionals regarding medical decisions.

 

No Harmful or Dangerous Content
 

Do not post content that:
 

· promotes violence;
 

· encourages self-harm;
 

· promotes illegal activity;
 

· encourages unsafe medical practices;
 

· threatens others; or
 

· creates foreseeable risk of harm.
 

Content that presents immediate safety concerns may be removed without notice.

 

No Hate or Discrimination
 

RebuildAfterStroke welcomes individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
 

Content targeting individuals or groups based on characteristics such as race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, age, or similar protected characteristics is not permitted.
 

No Commercial Exploitation
 

The Wishlist exists to support recovery-related needs.
 

Do not use RebuildAfterStroke primarily to:
 

· advertise products or services;
 

· generate sales leads;
 

· promote unrelated businesses;
 

· conduct marketing campaigns;
 

· distribute spam; or
 

· recruit users for commercial purposes.
 

Limited sharing of recovery-related resources may be appropriate when relevant and non-commercial.

 

Respect Intellectual Property
 

Only share content that you have the right to share.
 

Do not post:
 

· copyrighted material without permission;
 

· photographs you do not have permission to use;
 

· content copied from other sources without authorization; or
 

· materials that infringe another person’s rights.

 

Reporting Concerns
 

If you believe content violates these Community Guidelines, please contact:

When reporting an issue, please provide as much relevant information as possible.
 

Examples include:
 

· profile links;
 

· screenshots;
 

· dates;
 

· descriptions of the issue; and
 

· any safety concerns.

 

How We May Respond
 

To help protect users and maintain a trustworthy community, RebuildAfterStroke may:
 

· review reported content;
 

· request additional information;
 

· remove content;
 

· limit visibility of content;
 

· suspend accounts;
 

· terminate accounts; or
 

· take other reasonable actions consistent with our Terms of Use.
 

Not every disagreement or complaint will result in action.
 

We reserve discretion in determining how these Guidelines are applied.
 

Protecting Vulnerable Users
 

Many members of our community are recovering from significant medical events or caring for loved ones who are doing so.
 

We encourage all users to act with empathy, honesty, and respect.
 

If you encounter behavior that appears exploitative, deceptive, abusive, or unsafe, please report it.
 

Changes to These Guidelines
 

We may update these Community Guidelines from time to time.
 

Updated versions will be posted on the Site with a revised Effective Date.
